Left & Right, LHD & RHD - By convention, left & right are as viewed when sitting in a car & looking forward. LHD & RHD seem to cause some confusion. Reference to LHD (left hand drive) is to the position of the steering wheel, on the left. A LHD car was designed to be driven on the right hand side of the road! A RHD car has the steering wheel on the right, originally for driving on the left hand side of the road. In French, LHD = conduite a gauche, RHD = conduite a droite. In German, LHD = Linkslenker, RHD = Rechtslenker In Italian, LHD = guida sinistra, RHD = guida destra. In Spanish, LHD = izquierdo maneja, RHD = derecho maneja.
